Principal's Message
Welcome to a place of learning which values your child’s journey through formal education. A place where people listen to and learn from each other everyday, where problems are negotiated with reasoning and creativity, a place where individuality is respected and empathy towards others is the principle that governs all actions. I believe that the way we learn to listen, talk, play, think, negotiate, value and care here will automatically bring about the desired changes in our everyday lives and the environment around us. A successful day for us is one in which mutual admiration and appreciation between the staff, the children and the families who we are involved with, brings forth a sense of togetherness and belonging, with a desire to create and learn.
Education, I believe, is the passage to finding your element. The revolutionary educationist Sir Ken Robinson defines the element as, “…the place where the things we love to do and the things we are good at come together. It is the meeting point between natural aptitude and personal passion.”
An environment that allows individual creativity to flourish must be created for the child to know what he/she actually excels in and loves to do. It is therefore essential for us in schools to encourage the nurturing of human talent with an understanding of how talent is manifested in every individual. A child usually has more than one kind of intelligence. It is through regular and varied hands-on activities that we find out what each child has talent for, which has to be cultivated at each growing stage.
Creativity and imagination go hand in hand. Children must be allowed ample opportunities for success each day in order to come up with original ideas and the extension of the mind beyond the ordinary curriculum. All children start their school careers with sparkling imaginations, fertile minds and a willingness to take risks with what they think. This very trait is stifled when they are made to think that only one way or answer is right. They cannot be afraid to think differently from others.
It is our goal here in school every day to create an environment in which ideas flow in each child’s mind and are expressed in the classrooms as well as through activities of interest. Discussion, laughter and easy expression are encouraged because when we are playing around with ideas and laughing, we are most open to new thoughts and ideas. Fear kills creativity; constant fear kills imagination. Children learn best when they learn from each other and when their teachers are learning with them. Learning is a personal process not a common one with ‘a one size fits all’ curriculum. It is a personal process towards finding one’s element.
India is in the global spotlight once again. The information age has made India an emerging economic giant. If the world is moving towards a knowledge-based society, then India will emerge as a great power. I believe that the Indian mind is indomitable when it comes to understanding concepts and in mathematical reasoning. It is most adept at working peacefully and harmoniously even in the most diverse situations. It finds a way to adapt and grow as fast as humanly possible. Where this spirit does not find root is in the methods of instruction it is exposed to, especially in the early years of growth. Creativity has no place in the current schemes of instruction; therefore, we learn to snub those who do not conform to the mould, leaving no room for individual invention and curiosity. It is here that education must bring about change, especially at the primary level, if we are to be producers, manufacturers and leaders in the 21st century.
We have everything that we need that makes this progression towards India’s greatness logical-technology, education, a collective imagination and a history drawing from every possible spiritual and religious tradition. Over thousands of years, we have learned to accept and draw inspiration from various cultures. We’ve learned to exist and make things work for us even in adverse circumstances. Let us bring these facets of our varied culture into our classrooms and make our children leaders in the world, exemplifying the fact that greatness can be achieved with nobility and grace.
We go this way but once, Oh heart of mine So why not make the journey well worthwhile,
Giving to those who travel with us A helping hand, a word of cheer, a smile?
